The Chief Executive’s Policy Address announced that the Fire Services Department will implement the “Registered Fire Engineers Scheme” by the end of 2025, we express full support for the implementation of this Scheme and firmly believe that its full rollout will create broader development opportunities for Hong Kong’s hotel and tourism industries.
The “Registered Fire Engineers Scheme” aims to introduce professionally qualified fire engineers into the market, providing the industry with an additional channel for fire safety certification services and effectively shortening the time required for such services. The Scheme will be implemented by phases, and when the Scheme is extended to the hotel industry in the future, it will bring profound benefits to the industry. The reduced time required for fire safety certification processes will facilitate earlier operation of hotels and related dining and entertainment projects. This allows Hong Kong to be better equipped to accommodate visitors from around the world, enhancing the travel experience. This will attract more tourists to visit Hong Kong, driving local economic growth and aligning with the Policy Address’s objective of “Tourism is Everywhere,” securing Hong Kong’s position as an international tourism hub.
The implementation of the “Registered Fire Engineers Scheme” manifests the Government’s drive in promoting efficient, professional, and transparent third-party certification systems. It not only provides the hotel industry with reliable fire safety assurance but also enhances the professionalism of fire engineers, making it a win-win solution.
We highly commend the Fire Services Department for its extensive consultations with industry stakeholders during the development of the “Registered Fire Engineers Scheme.” The phased implementation approach, coupled with a clear code of practice, has garnered widespread support from the industry. As representatives of the hotel sector, we hope that the extension of the “Registered Fire Engineers Scheme” can be expedited, allowing more hotels and related licensed premises to benefit from the advantages brought by the Scheme as soon as possible.
