The Hong Kong Hotels Association (HKHA) and the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners met with WSD on 11 November to discuss two important topics:
1) Bidet Installation in Hotels
Members shared their concerns and challenges of installing bidets in guest rooms, citing technical and regulatory issues. This initiative aims to promote the Muslim visitor segment, aligning with the Government’s strategy to attract travellers from the Middle East and Muslim-majority countries, where bidets are a typical and expected amenity.
WSD agreed to review and explore the establishment of an interim solution to support hotels in installing bidet devices.
2) Water Supply Contingency Plans
Members raised for discussion on contingency arrangements in the event of water supply disruptions affecting the hotel area. As hotels serve both residents and international visitors, they are considered critical infrastructure, and having firm emergency plans and clear communication is essential.
WSD agreed to coordinate and consolidate an emergency communication list for hoteliers to engage the appropriate person in charge in case of water supply disruptions.
WSD acknowledged our concerns and committed to follow up on these actions. HKHA will keep members updated on progress.
