The Hong Kong Hotels Association and the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners held a meeting with relevant government departments on 30 July to discuss fire safety arrangements concerning smoke hoods. The meeting provided a constructive platform for open dialogue, allowing both sides to exchange views on safety objectives, implementation approaches, operational considerations, and industry concerns. The hotel sector reaffirmed its strong commitment to fire and life safety, support for practical measures that enhance the safety of guests, staff, and the public, and its longstanding adherence to Hong Kong’s stringent fire safety standards. Industry feedback on areas such as procurement, product certification, staff training, liability, and insurance was positively received, with government departments committing to ongoing communication, clear guidance, and practical cooperation. Both associations believe that continued collaboration between the government and the industry will further strengthen Hong Kong’s hotel fire safety standards while ensuring operational practicality.
